Photographs by Blair Fethers

Born and raised in Joplin, Missouri, Blair Fethers graduated from McAuley Catholic High School in 1995.  He attended the University of Missouri in Columbia, where he majored in Film and minored in both English and Sociology.  Upon moving to New York City in 2000, he spent four years as a design assistant and photographer at Jim Henson Company. After that, he took time off to travel in Europe and South America, as well as to be with family.  He currently lives in Brooklyn, N.Y. where he does freelance photography for FStop Images, Berlin, Germany and web design for The New York Times.

Fethers' artistic philosophy: "I do not intentionally seek out any particular or repetitive themes.  However, after reviewing my work for this project, I recognize that certain elements frequently emerge: varying modes of transport (flight, for example), landscapes, melancholy iconography, and certain colors--shades of blue, grey, and brown.  I am becoming increasingly aware of when to take a picture and how I would prefer it to turn out.  I try to capture the ephemeral little moments in life that otherwise might be more easily forgotten.  I hope to continue working on photography, as well as getting the chance to travel further."
