Corbels: Bacchus

Corbels* : The four carved figures represent a faun, a gargoyle, Bacchus (shown here), and a monkey-like face from Hampton Court in London.

* Dr. Post modeled the faces in clay; then Reverend Howard Foland (who did the carved ornamentation at St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Joplin) carved them in wood. These corbels once resided at the base of the ribs supporting the vaulted ceiling in the Posts' great hall.
