MANY ME'S: SELF-PORTRAITS BY
JESSE McCORMICK
In his paintings and drawings,
Jesse McCormick of Carterville, Mo. depicts the human form to represent emotions
and interactions. This is especially evident in a series of self-portraits that
he created during the past four decades. Obviously, an artist becomes much more
personally involved when presenting his own likeness. The self-portrait becomes
a psychological exercise as well as a confessional. McCormick reveals himself
honestly and unflinchingly, exposing his inner secrets for all to see.
Jesse, who was born in Carthage, Missouri, spent much of his life in California
working in the field of engineering. He also studied music, writing, and
art. His most influential art teacher was Emmanuel Cosentino. Many of his
paintings and drawings are in private collections. Some have won prizes and
awards in competition.
